Its Patches by a Muzzle

Yesterday Casey, the Little-Girl, and I went to the race track about 45 minutes from our house to watch precious little tiny wienie dogs run their hearts out. Anyone who has visited this blog more than once knows that I have the tiniest obsession for tiny little dogs, but this would have warmed even a cat person's heart.

They put the dogs in a starting box, like they do horses at an actual horse race, and then they lift the lid and the little babies are out. Their parents are several feet away sqeeking toys, dangling treats etc. to get their little dachshunds to run their hearts out. The race track is obviously too big for them, so they only run 70 ft. of it. The event is also announced just like a real horse race "its #6 Trixie, oh, #2 Peanut is taking the lead...its Peanut...its Peanut...oh man, #9 Patches has come out of nowhere to run neck and neck with Peanut...Peanut...Patches...Peanut...Paches...and the photo finish says....Patches by a muzzle." And the crowd goes wild. The event was a blast and hilarious. The winning weinie from group one actually won because the original dog in the lead had to stop to "scoot." The pet parents of the winning dog sat in front of us, and you'd think that they had just won the lottery when their dog, Oscar, was declared the winner.

All betting money went to benefit the Free to Live Animal Shelter. You can read more about the Dachshund races here.

Hugs, love and Dachshund kisses
