13Things I loved about Living in Washington, D.C.
1. Public Transportation. To me, its so much easier than driving places. Plus, its just so efficient there that its quicker too.
2. Walking everywhere. I lost a lot of weight and really toned my legs up.
3. The city is very pet friendly. Dogs are welcome on the patios of most restaurants.
4. People are more open minded. Oklahoma is not exactly a hotbed of new ideas. I'm a fairly progressive thinker and often don't feel that I fit in well back home, but not so in D.C.
5. D.C. is just a few hours from NYC. Which, if you've read my 100 things about me, is my favorite place ever.
6. The national history. I was humbled to see the actual place Lincoln was shot and the bed he died in.
7. Roommates. It was fun to live with young girls after being married. Not that I don't love being married more than anything, but it was fun to pretend like it was college again.
8. Shopping. As may be inferred by #4 above, Oklahoma does not have all the cool stores that D.C. does.
9. Meeting people. D.C. has so many different people from so many different walks of life. I learned so much about myself and improved my social skills in so many different settings. It always really improved my self-esteem to know I could make new friends, because I've known all my current friends for years.
10. Feeling independent. I am fiercely independent, but moving to a new city all alone was a little daunting. This also helped prove my self-esteem.
11. Everyone works. A lot. I am a self-proclaimed workaholic and it was nice to see that there is a place where a lot of people share this trait.
12. There is ALWAYS something to do. Again, please reference #4.
13. Vegan friendly. Although I wasn't a vegan when I lived there (I made that change when I returned home after a health scare) there are tons of vegan and vegetarian places there.
